EXPLORE THE ISLAND

Betina

A picturesque, quiet, discreet and traditional village with an attractive and intimate beauty, full of charm, authenticity, both historic and religious values. It is a tourist heaven with a strong cultural and economic identity.

It has a community of farmers, shipbuilders, blacksmiths, fishermen, craftsmen, and is an increasingly popular tourist destination. The most well-known export and a symbol of Betina’s wooden shipbuilding industry are its boats: from the gajeta and the leut, to the trawlers and leisure boats.

Murter

Nestled amongst the hills Raduč (128m), Mount St. Roko or Vršine (70m), and Gradina (62m) beneath it, which in ancient times was the site of the Roman settlement of Colentum.
Although very much a rural village, over its history Murter has cultivated, nurtured and preserved the highest standards of culture. Authentic stone-vaulted streets, simple dwellings, stone walls covered with ivy, combined with modest but innovative ingenuity have all served to preserve the story of Murter from vanishing into the history books.

Gradina hill

The ancient Illyrians recognized the beauty of this place when they first dropped anchor here, an event silently witnesses by the Illyrian hill fort of Gradina, which now lies between Murter and Betina. You can ascend to the ruins, which can easily be seen on top of the hill where today stands a giant cross.
The Romans were also powerless to resist the beauty of this place, so they founded the village of Colentum (First or Second Century), which was situated between Murter and Betina.
